| Lanowool breastfeeding
pads is manufactured in New Zealand and is fully owned by
Lene Alexandersen, Danish mother of two children and her New
Zealand husband.
The
company’s main product is Lanowool breastfeeding pads for
mothers. The idea to develop Lanowool breastfeeding pads,
came when Lene as a newborn mother searched for a washable,
ecofriendly breastfeeding pad that would not chaff or adhere
to sore breasts. Lene recognized the additional benefits of
using soft New Zealand merino wool and worked with AgResearch
to develop her own version of a woolen breastfeeding pad,
processed with biodegradable detergents and finally treated
with an emulsifier of purified, pesticidefree lanolin (woolfat)
– also an acknowledged nipple cream in most countries. The
pesticidefree lanolin is without any risk of allergy to mother
and baby.
Lene
believes the Lanowool breastfeeding pads are an improvement
from any other ordinary woollen breastfeeding pad. “The very
fine and non-itchy merino wool is softer against the skin,
having been washed in biodegradable soap and treated with
purified medical-grade lanolin, which ensures the optimal
environment for breast care”, she says. This opinion is reinforced
by an overwhelming positive response from new mothers using
the pads.
